Libya seeks new UN ambassador (AP)

UNITED NATIONS – The U.N. says Moammar Gadhafi's polity is asking that senior African functionary calif Abdussalam Treki be acknowledged credentials as Libya's new U.N. representative.

Martin Nesirky, spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said weekday that the U.N. chief's duty also conventional a ordinal honor requesting that diplomatic credentials be withdrawn for Ambassador Mohamed Shalgham and Deputy Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi. Both have publicly renounced Gadhafi for his state against protesters seeking his ouster.

Treki early served as Libya's U.N. diplomatist and was chair of the U.N. General Assembly for the period session that ended terminal August.

Shalgham and Dabbashi could not be settled for comment. Phones at the African mission rang unanswered.
